The roguelike action-RPG challenges players to work together to defeat the nightmare creatures invading a land inspired by folk tales and legends.

Developer Passtech Games and publisher Nacon are preparing to release Ravenswatch on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The roguelike action-RPG was officially launched on PC in September 2024.

Ravenswatch challenges players to save the world of Reverie from nightmare creatures. The world is inspired by folk tales and legends, though with a “dark fantasy twist,” and its playable characters also come from those stories. For instance, Scarlet is from the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, but also suffers from lycanthropy and therefore turns into a werewolf each night during the game’s day and night cycle. Other heroes include The Pied Piper, Beowulf, the Snow Queen, Aladdin, Melusine, Geppetto, Sun Wukong, and Carmilla. Each character has different skills and abilities at their disposal.

During each run, one to four players can team up to defeat enemies across randomly generated maps. At the beginning of the run, the “Master Nightmare” creature rests somewhere in the stage and will awaken after a set amount of time has elapsed. This gives players a limited amount of time to visit important locations around the map and even complete side quests before it wakes up. If players finish everything before the Master Nightmare awakens (or just want to skip ahead), they’ll have the option to battle the creature early.

Players will level up as they defeat enemies and complete key actions during a run. This allows them to unlock new skills and upgrades for their characters. If a hero dies, other players can revive them, or they can use a feather to revive instantly. The group shares a limited number of feathers – once they’re gone and the last hero falls, the run ends.

The game’s playable characters will earn experience points and other rewards (like new abilities) after each run. As they reach certain level milestones, additional chapters in their personal stories will unlock.

While Ravenswatch can be played by a single person, players may find the game too difficult when playing solo, even if playing on the game’s base difficulty. At the same time, those looking for even more challenge can tweak the game’s difficulty setting with a selection of modifiers.

Ravenswatch will be released digitally on PS5 and Xbox Series on November 28, 2024. A physical "Legendary Edition" will hit both consoles on December 5. The physical Legendary Edition will be released for Switch in 2025.
