A quiet start to the summer is about to be blown out of the water by the roar of thousands of college fans.

Posted 4 months ago

July is a relatively quiet month of game releases, all to make way for the return of the king. College Football is making a triumphant return to our console screens this month after more than a decade's absence – long enough for some entire pro bowl careers to have come and gone!

Not to get crowded out by the line of scrimmage, there are a couple other delightful gems worth checking out. So if you want to know what's worth your hard-earned greenbacks this month, or just aren't into tossing the pigskin around, here's a quick look at what to get excited about this July in gaming!

July 2024 game releases

This month's major releases start off with Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail developers miHoyo taking aim at another character-action genre, with a hybrid of roguelike combo-chasing and the styles and sensibilities of the Persona RPG series. Zenless Zone Zero is free to check out on all available platforms, so give it a go to see if that's your new jam.

Zenless Zone Zero keyart features three of the main playable characters sitting on or in a white car parked next to a fence with a skateboard leaning against it.

Two birds fly over a dreamlike landscape followed by various bizarre flocks of creatures.

Flock is also a co-op herding adventure, if you can corral a friend, too.

Flock is a delightful and relaxing herding game from the creators of Hohokum, in which you smoothly pilot similarly colorful creatures around on a sort of birdwatching adventure among the clouds. Are they birds or fish? Or sheep? Anyway, Brandy went out to Summer Game Fest to check out the vibes and came back raving about the experience, so you can read more about it in her Flock preview if that sounds interesting to you.
