Even if that gamer is you!
And while you’re gift-hunting, it’s worth mentioning that we have great recommendations for Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S gamers too.
Astro Bot
- Great for: Mario fans, platformer and music lovers, Sony stalwarts
The adorable Astro Bot’s dedicated PS5 outing is every bit the upbeat treat we had hoped for. The game sees him hopping, hovering, and scampering through a variety of worlds fizzing with interactivity and vibrancy. On the way, he’ll be rescuing a plethora of bots based on characters from iconic PlayStation games, making this a great option for both younger players and those who’ve stuck with the PlayStation lineage for a long time. In our review, Chris described it as a “wonderful little adventure for a wonderful little bot.” To learn more, read the full review here.
Silent Hill 2
- Great for: Horror fans, mystery lovers, puzzle fans
Silent Hill 2 is one of the most iconic survival horror games of all time. Few had faith that this year’s remake would measure up to its inspiration – us included! 2024’s Silent Hill 2 blew all our reservations away with a superb retelling featuring intense combat, harrowing monsters, unsettling environments, and excellent puzzles. In our review, Henry described it as a “modern classic,” though it’s worth noting that Silent Hill 2 is definitely not suitable for younger players. Learn more in our full review here.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Great for: Action-RPG players, Mass Effect 2 fans, fantasy enthusiasts, romantics
Dragon Age: The Veilguard marks the grand return of a much beloved fantasy RPG series. The Veilguard delivers a bombastic and visually sumptuous tale of magic, ancient elven gods, and companionship. It brings a marked change in combat and exploration from series predecessors, but that might be for the best given that in our review, Aimee described it as “the best Dragon Age yet.” Find out more in the full review here.
Star Wars Outlaws
- Great for: Star Wars fans, heist movie enthusiasts, explorers
Star Wars gaming goes open world in Kay Vess’ planet-hopping adventure. Star Wars Outlaws follows an inexperienced scoundrel on her path to becoming a legend of the galaxy as she flits between factions and allegiances. It’s an ideal adventure for anyone who fancies themselves a Han Solo and doesn’t much care for Jedi involvement. In our review, Chris gave it our highest badge of honor, saying: “if you have even the slightest beat of a cantina drum in your heart, then Outlaws is the chance you have been waiting for.” You can read the full review here to learn more.
Epic Mickey: Rebrushed
- Great for: Disney enthusiasts, younger gamers, artists
Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a remake of a 2010 Wii platformer, and it looks and plays far better than those years might suggest! After Mickey Mouse accidentally spills an evil ink across a magical diorama, he must jump inside to clean up his own mess. Wielding a paintbrush and ink thinner, he can remove or add to elements of the world as he explores, creating novel exploration, platforming, and boss battle elements.
It’s a great pick for someone who’s already hopped through Mario’s offerings, or anyone with an interest in forgotten Disney characters. In our review, Brandy described Epic Mickey: Rebrushed as “a stellar 3D platformer with a deep, engaging storyline.” Check out her extended thoughts in the full review here.

Metaphor ReFantazio
- Great for: Persona fans, fantasy enthusiasts, anime watchers
Persona developer Atlus shifts to a fantasy setting for this grand RPG adventure across a magical realm which is seeking a sovereign successor. It’s a turn-based RPG oozing with anime style and boasting a stellar soundtrack, both of which complement the excellent story and characters. In our review, Chris said: “It perfectly balances its weighty, philosophical pondering on the nature of utopia and social progress, with playful and silly team-building moments with your pals.” Read the full review for more details.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
- Great for: Zombie slayers, dark comedy fans, time-efficient gamers
A classic of the Xbox 360 is now available for PlayStation fans, and it looks and plays better than ever. Frank West has just 72 hours in a zombie-infested shopping mall to dismantle the mystery of what caused the infection. This is silly horror rather than scary, though, with ridiculous outfits to dress up in and zombie-killing equipment galore. In our review, Chris said: “Its unique tone might not be for everyone, but it is definitely one worth experiencing for fans of other zombie-based dark comedies.” Read the full review here.
EA Sports College Football 25
- Great for: Football fans, college sports enthusiasts
We’ve opted for College Football over Madden as the ideal gift for sports fans, as its capture of campus games is a brilliant celebration of America’s biggest sport. Authentic chants and special events set the mood for grudge matches, and the Dynasty mode lets you coach a team to glory. In our review, Jason said: “EA Sports College Football 25 absolutely nails the feeling of a college football game, with all of the pomp and pageantry well intact.” Get a deeper dive into the mechanics with our full review here.
Planet Coaster 2
- Great for: Management simmers, theme/water park obsessives, designers
Amusement parks clash (and splash) with water parks in simulation game Planet Coaster 2. Water rides based on several iconic real-world parks are included, but designing your personal park layout is, of course, the real attraction here. Planet Coaster 2 is best suited to those who enjoy laid-back management sims over intense action. Learn more about its customization options in our interview with the game’s principle pineline artist.
Lego Horizon Adventures
- Great for: Co-op players, Horizon fans, Lego enthusiasts
Aloy’s adventures from Horizon Zero Dawn get the Lego treatment, with all the brick-based action and comedy that entails. In Lego Horizon Adventures, Aloy and her allies must use bows, staves, and traps to take down aggressive robot machines and uncover the past that led to their creation. As with most Lego games, the harsher edges to the story have been smoothed out in favor of amusement, making for a more upbeat romp ideally suited to co-op play. Learn more about Lego Horizon Adventures in our review.
